Lookup hostnames with .local extensions
If your network uses .local as its default domain, then some MAC clients may not be able browse any hostnames because of the Bonjour (previously known as "Rendezvous") service.
Bonjour is a service allowing machines on a network to talk to each other by name, without a separate DNS server. if a MAC client tries to lookup an address with a .local extension it always assumes it is a Bonjour address.
One way around this is to change your DNS Server to use say ".lan" instead. However that might not be too easy in a Windows environment.
The following article shows how to configure the MAC to use both Bonjour and standard DNS
